I Hope You Know Somebody Loves You (Inspired by Rascal Flatts’ “My Wish”)

Tiny clenched fists

Unblemished, unscarred

Holding onto nothing

And won’t let go

I hope you know somebody loves you

Eyes shut tight

Eyelashes pressed against rosy cheeks

Trying to block out the surrounding world

And sleep in contentment

I hope you know somebody loves you

Little grunts escape

From a button nose

Wrinkled up

As dreams fade gray

I hope you know somebody loves you

Tossing and turning

A hand reaches out

To catch the round head

Soft peach fuzz against wrinkled skin

I hope you know somebody loves you

An open mouth

Exposed bare gums

Ready to give the world all you got

A squeak comes out

I hope you know somebody loves you

Reassuring hands

Sway the worries out

Back and forth

Pressed against soft cotton

I hope you know somebody loves you

Little lips close

No reason to yell

Small baby sighs

Forehead creases smooth

I hope you know somebody loves you

Held tight in loving arms

Not ready to face the world yet

A stomach rises

With each tiny breath

I hope you know somebody loves you
